Welcome to Room 4!
This will no doubt be an exciting year for your child, full of learning, fun, creativity, and exploration. I am looking forward to working closely with you and the Reed School community to ensure your child has a wonderful year in Kindergarten. I look forward to being able to tell you more about myself and further explain our Kindergarten program at Back to School Night. In the meantime, here are a few tips to get us off to a successful start!
School hours this week:
- Thursday: 8:30 – 1:40
- Friday: 8:30 – 2:40
Parent Homework: (Please complete before the first day of school)
- Email me your child’s pick up schedule at [email protected] Example: meet at tables by front gate, bus, carline, grandma, etc. (Feel free to send a family photo with names to help me get to know you!)
- Fill out student Information form and sign up online to receive classroom email. (Click button at the bottom of page)
- Talk to your child about your pick up procedure. (Where will you meet your child after school?)
- Label your child’s tote with their name and room number (4).
- Pack a healthy snack in the outside pocket of the tote and a lunch in a labeled lunchbox.
- Save the date for Back to School Night: September 13, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:30pm!
Important Notes:
- First day of school dismissal is at 1:40pm
- Carline and playground supervision begin at 8:00am.
- The first bell rings at 8:25 and kindergarten students line up in front of their classrooms when the bell rings.
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are 2:40 dismissal. (except for the 1st day of school!)
- Wednesdays are a minimum day with dismissal at 1:40pm.
Totes:
Please send your child to school each day with their tote bag. Have your child’s name and room number clearly written on the front. Their lunch should go in the large pocket and their separated snack should fit into the small front pocket. Our routine will be to place their snack in their cubby first thing in the morning.
School Clothes:
Please dress your child in clothes that are easily laundered – suitable for active work, play, and creative messiness. All children need to be dressed in closed-toe rubber soled shoes for safety and playground accessibility. Mark all possessions with your child’s name (or you may never see them again!) All lost and found items are donated at the end of the month to a local thrift shop. Please do not bring any toys or electronics to school.
First Day of School - Thursday, August 23rd!!! :)
We are looking forward to our first day of school on Thursday!
Our doors will open at 8:15. You are invited to walk your student into our classroom for the first two days of school.
When you get to school, please have your child line up outside the Room 4 door (playground side). First day anxieties are common for some students and parents. Keeping things quick and light is best!
Please discuss after school plans with your student before you leave campus - your child will benefit from knowing how and when they will see you after their big day!
I will greet the children at the door at 8:15. You may come in with your child and help them put their snack away, find their tote hook (on the outside wall) and hang up their tote. Then come back into the classroom and find a book to read together on the rainbow rug.
When the time is right, I will ask students to say goodbye to you and gather on the rainbow rug. When we begin to settle, I’ll ring my “magic kindergarten chime” and that will be your signal to leave.
It is going to be a wonderful day and just the beginning of a fun filled year!!
If you have any more questions, please refer to the Reed Handbook or feel free to email me. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and your child!
Best,
Teresa Bowe
